Troll A — 1.8km Hose Transfer System

1.8 km SoluForce transfer system with hydraulic reels, KLAW Zero dry-disconnect, and 48 buoyancy elements — Troll A to shuttle tanker for TP3 well clean-up.

FCS hose reel system on quayside for Troll A TP3 well clean-up

Equinor engaged FCS to transfer well clean-up fluids between the Troll A platform and the DP2 shuttle tanker Siri Knutsen during the TP3 well clean-up operation. Fluids pumped from a temporary process/storage facility on Troll A (operated by EXPRO) to Siri Knutsen (operated by Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers), via subsea hose deployed from installation vessel Edda Freya.

We delivered the complete transfer package: two reel systems each carrying 900m of SoluForce H 515 (6") RTP hose, hydraulic-powered deployment reels, HPUs, a new-build over-boarding chute with inbuilt accumulator, and a KLAW Zero dry-disconnect unit installed at the Troll A hang-off station. Auxiliary kit included a custom bend stiffener, 48 buoyancy elements, pull-in caps, and securing clamps — all designed and manufactured in-house.

The system enabled fluid transfer at 3.3 m³/min at approximately 25 bar. FCS managed interfaces between all parties (Equinor, DeepOcean, EXPRO, Knutsen), developed project-specific procedures including hose connection/disconnection, participated in the HAZOP, and executed system integration testing prior to mobilisation.

Field execution covered the full lifecycle — installing the chute and KLAW Zero hang-off on Troll A, deploying the 1.8 km hose system from Edda Freya, supporting the operation on both ends, then recovering the hose and demobilising. Crews ranged from two to four personnel per phase across vessel and platform.
