Edvard Grieg — Flexible Squeeze Riser

Replaced a 13-person manual rig-up with a single pre-rigged unit, all operations on one deck level.

Edvard Grieg Flexible Squeeze Riser manifold

The old way of running scale-squeeze operations on Edvard Grieg required 13 personnel, multiple pumps, extensive treating iron, and hours of manual rig-up per well.

We designed a pre-rigged Flexible Squeeze Riser (FSR) that arrives offshore ready to operate — a combined manifold, choke, mixing system and flow-control package housed in a single open-top basket, connected via a 3" 10K Black Eagle hose through the intervention hatch.

All treating lines, chokes and flow-control components are pre-connected onshore. The unit is fully compatible with standard Wireline Risers for future campaigns. All operations happen on one deck level with zero heavy manual lifts, dramatically reducing rig-up/rig-down time and enabling rapid well-to-well transitions.

Designed from the ground up with HSE as the top priority, the short-term FSR package addresses long-standing pain points in scale-squeeze operations while generating real-world data for the upcoming long-term riser solution.

Senior management from SLB and Aker BP have praised the speed of delivery and quality of execution. The system has the potential to become the standard for enhanced well interventions in future field practices.

"We set out to remove complexity, reduce personnel exposure and slash non-productive time — and we have delivered exactly that. This short-term solution is already proving itself offshore and gives us invaluable real-world data for the permanent Flexible Squeeze Riser that will follow."

— Thomas Madsen, SLB's Project Lead for the Intervention & Stimulation Alliance
